Our Mission and History
Our objective
The Firewise USA® Program is a nationally recognized organization focused on providing individuals and communities with the resources they need to ready their property and community against wildfire. The national Firewise USA® recognition program provides a collaborative framework to help neighbors get organized, find direction, and take action to increase the ignition resistance of their homes and community and to reduce wildfire risks at a local level.
The goals of each Firewise® community in Northeast Oregon are:
To provide a forum to increase the public awareness of the wildland/urban interface (WUI) fire problem.
To develop local solutions to the issue.
To form partnerships among problem solvers and interest groups.
To promote safety for firefighting resources and the public in the WUI.
Our history
The Pine Creek community became Firewise® official in 2014 and was the first Firewise® Community in Eastern Oregon. As a result of the community’s efforts, folks belonging to the Firewise® Community survived the Canyon Creek Complex Fire in 2015.
